OTR League
The On The Rivet League is open to registered members. It is a fantasy league of World Tour events (Men and Women). The OTR League will start with the Spring Classics and end with the Tour of the Falling Leaves (Giro de Lombardia).
Events will be scored 12, 9, 6, 4, 3 for correct picks in the first 5 places. A pick in the first 5 but not in the right place will score 1. No substitutions will be allowed once an event starts.
To change your picks simply submit a new set and we will pick up your latest set. Pick close at 00:00 UK time on the day of the event start.
End of season prizes pictured on the right – they may change if I find anything more fun on my travels through the season. There may also be a few spot prizes.
Picks open for Vuelta Feminise
Well, assuming I got all of last week correct (!), La Flèche Wallonne saw most of us join the troupe of DNFs to leave Stihlzy manning it up to struggle to the finish with a 1 point win. In the Femmes Dancollins soloed to a fine win. In Liege Bastogne Liege the weather was obviously better and in mass bunch finish Sthilzy pulled away for a clear win. The Femmes was a more scattered affair with Haldy34 taking the win. Chapeaux to the winners. Overall Sthilzy is taking the wind with Teocalli drafting and Haldy34 bridging the gap. Pick for… Read more »
Amstel Gold sees a very relaxed bunch cruise over the line for a single point shared win. We made a bit better showing in the Femmes with a joint win for MangoDave and Philplumb59, Must learn not to change my picks!
Overall there is a tightening lead bunch with Sthilzy and Teocalli sharing the wind.
@Teocalli – I still feel like the third wheel in a Teams Pursuit!
Isn’t third wheel the best place to be?!
Not for the photo ops!
Double dammit! I discounted the divine Ms Vos in favor of Weibes. The latter thought she had won giving me some much needed 1-2 points but then the GOAT timed her throw to perfection to win. Great to see Pidcock win – that was a nervy last kilometer! He doesn’t win a lot, but Pidcock seems to be going for quality over quantity . Maybe a L-B-L win is on the cards?
Wiebes did me a favour though!
Ah rats – well it would had I not changed my picks!
Amstel Gold Race prize money for the races will be a total of €34,000 with both men and women receiving equal payment. This will be split between the first 20 riders crossing the line; taking into consideration that the winner will win €16,000.
Prize Money Breakdown
1st. €16,000
2nd. €8,000
3rd. €4,000
4th. €2,000
5th. €1,600
6th. €1,200
7th. €1,200
8th. €800
9th. €800
10th – 20th. €400
The prize money compared to other sports is really rather sad, isn’t it? 16k for the win. In golf I think you get that for making the cut.
Must do better on my picks this year. Very poor form lately.
At first I thought this was the OTR League prize money. Such disappointment!
Ha Ha! You may wish……….
Missing 1 point for Paris Roubaix men-had MVP right but got Pedersen and Philipsen inverted
Fixing
Sadly my habit of waiting til near the deadline to enter picks caught me out after a small family emergency called me out of town before making my men’s race picks.
Paris Roubaix sees clear winners for Sthilzy and Chuckp, Chapeaux – though as Chuckp pipped me at the post I may have to review late entry submissions!
Overall sees some swings following apparent Delgado entries and Teocalli takes up the pace – I don’t think I’ve made any errors but I didn’t expect that – don’t suppose I will be out in the wind for too long!
It seems like Sthilzy should have more points in PR for getting all three podium places correct. Am I reading that right?
Fixing – I propagated someones typo into the results spreadsheet!
Phew – I just keep a wheel up on Sthilzy in the overall. Unless I still have it wrong!
All good!
Chapeaux Teocalli for keeping the vibe alive!
I realize the race is just started, but hoping my picks for Paris Roubaix Femmes will be allowed. Have a friend visiting from UK and yesterday was my wedding anniversary, so have been busy. But completely understand if not. Thanx!
1 – Kopecky
2 – Balsamo
3 – Vos
4 – Georgi Pfeiffer
5 – Chiara Consonni
OK, I suppose………
Slightly weird results last week with Philplumb59 taking Dwars door Vlaanderen with a single point ahead of a dismal bunch! Then in Ronde van Vlaanderen a mass bunch sprint left the photo finish with a tie for first of the entire bunch. Finally Haldy34 took Ronde van Vlaanderen Femmes with a narrow win in a pretty slow field. Chapeaux to all.
Overall Haldy34 maintains his lead.
Well, well, interesting times – the Arenberg chicane? Now it’ll be flat out before a 90 degree turn before quickly hitting a 180 then another 90. And it looks like it might be a mud fest. A few riders go down on the 180 and you’ve got race-changing gaps.
Tour of the Basque country crashes? How Evenepoel missed hitting a tree trunk I don’t know. Bad news for Vingegaard. Add on WvA’s crash and it’ll be interesting to see who lines up in form for the Giro and Tour.
Good chance there will be slow crashes at the 90 if they are trying to turn onto greasy cobbles and accelerate.
Longo-Borghini not racing P-R Femmes.
Blooming autocorrect – Cocky is Kopecky and is not a very poor pun on her name.
@sthilzy @chuckp @Timmy42850 I doubt van Aert will be riding the Ronde with a broken collar bone and broken ribs following his crash in Doors van Vlaanderen……………….
Please excuse me putting my women’s picks for Flanders in the men’s! Fixed!
Ha Ha! No problems.
We have 3 clear winners for this week in Philplumb59, Sthilzy and Haldy34 and a tie in E3 Saxo Classic between ChuckP and Philplumb59 (in a reduced field!), Chapeaux.
Overall is starting to see something of a spread with some fairly high scores but the pace is being set by Haldy34 ahead of a tight casing bunch.
Watch out for those mid week Spring races!
I’m just opening picks for this week.
Sorry! It’s 8:30pm in Wisconsin on Saturday night and I just realized GW is tomorrow. Hopefully my picks will be accepted!
Men: MvdP, Phillipsen, Pedersen, Matthews, Girmay
Women: Kopecky, Longo-Norghini, Weibes,Balsamo, Kool
Make sure you put your Men’s entries in the correct block – I managed to put my GW picks in the E3 block – hence my 3 sets in the E3 picks!
In a relatively low scoring (though we have done worse!) Milan Sanremo, Teocalli takes the win by a tyre in a sprint finish just ahead the bunch.
Despite a Delgado, CyclingMonk maintains the overall lead.
Picks open for E3 Classic and Gent – Wevelgem
For some reason, my Volta a Catalunya picks that I put in yesterday didn’t register. Hoping these will be accepted by the committee:
1 – Pogacar
2 – Mas
3 – Kuss
4 – Yates
5 – Vlasov
Chuck, how did the procedure go? All good I hope?
Everything went smoothly last Wednesday. Took Thursday and Friday completely off and just watched bike racing and golf. More of the same over the weekend, but went for short (one mile) slow and easy walks. I feel pretty “normal.” No AFib. Have a follow up with my cardiologist next week. And with my electrophysiologist at the end of next month. Still on Eliquis for another 8 weeks. And on an anti-arrhythmia drug for 30 days. No riding or any other strenuous exercise for 2 weeks. Can do light weights (but just arms) and easy walking. Will ease back into riding… Read more »
Good to know. Best Wishes. Will pick up your entries in the results.
@chuckp – you scored 14 in Volta a Catalunya that has been rolled up into the overall results.
Not yet midnight here my time (US EDT) and hoping my picks for MSR will be accepted:
1 – MVdP
2 – Pog
3 – Mads Pedersen
4 – Laporte
5 – Pidcock
Will pick them up in the results
I had to re-enter picks for San Remo. I mixed up the entries for Catalunya the first time. Need more coffee this morning.
I think I should have another point for Paris-Nice. I had Evenepoel,Jorgenson and Vlasovin top five.
OK I’ll take a look later today.
Fixed for everyone that picked Jorgenson – typo in the results sheet! So now we have a 4 way tie for Paris Nice.
Paris – Nice sees a tie between CyclingMonk andMangDave, Chapeaux.
Overall the early pace is being set by CyclingMonk.
Picks will be opening for Milan Sanremo and Volta a Catalunya today.
